10 Dumbest Things Have you ever wondered why some people and churches excel and others do not? What are the consequences for ignoring the elephants in the room (church)? Are there solutions? Mark Atteberry addresses the obvious, but often overlooked problems and solutions in his book, "The 10 Dumbest Things Christians do." (Ten Dumbest Things)
Mr. Atteberry addresses subjects ranging from personal faith and
character issues to church wide cancers. Moral mistakes like living
below the level of our beliefs and accepting the unacceptable are a
part of the mix. Also considered are the problem of “church hoppers”
and the critical voices within the congregation. Other chapters deal
with winning people to the church and not Jesus, lack of excellence,
speaking beyond our knowledge, missing opportunities and not dealing
strongly with wolves among the flock.
None of the ten chapters should be shockingly new, but strong
reminders. Be careful not to dismiss a chapter by thinking, “I already
know that”. Ten Dumbest Things also digs into details about how these
issues are planted, evolve and come to fruition. You may not find
yourself in every chapter, but certainly several chapters should have
convicting elements.
Mark Atteberry has a humorous way of delivering challenging punch lines
while evoking change within the reader. Ten Dumbest Things is an easy
read with scriptural references included in the text. Also included is
a study guide at the end.
"The 10 Dumbest Things Christians do" is a good addition to your
library. Because it does contain the study guide it may prove a useful
tool in jump starting a small Bible study group.
