Page 1 of 5 Am I Bored? Am I bored with God? You may think this is an awful question, not worth
answering; but take a moment to consider it. Does exploring the nature
of God give you goosebumps? How about the excitement of opening your
Bible first thing in the morning? Can praying still illicit anticipation
in your soul? Do sense discovering something new or a greater insight
about God's character? Does your walk with God still generate the same
exhilaration of a first kiss?
Psalm 42:1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. Psalm 5:3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Isaiah 33:2 O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. Psalm 119:27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders.
In Ephesians 5:22-33, Paul compares marriage to the church. In a marriage it is important that neither partner becomes bored. Once we give up on exploring ways to please our spouse we begin focusing on their faults or some other relationship (or pursuits) to explore (2 Samuel 11). Our relationship with God is no different. If we chose to lose our passion to answer the questions, “Who is God and what makes him happy?” we are doomed. In more technical terms, we cannot neglect theology or salvation doctrine in our pursuit of the Lord.
