Page 3 of 3 The most relevant portion of the book for Restoration Movement members are the last two chapters. “Wisdom When Christians Differ” and “Weaker Brothers, Pharisees and Servants” are must reads for handling matters of opinions between believers. The book gives great definitions from scriptures, examples and solid methodology for determining what is appropriate in which circumstance. If you purchase the book for the last two chapters alone, it is worth it.
One down side to “Decision Making and the Will of God” is length. It is a thorough and sometimes tedious book. If you are married and not counseling singles, consider skipping the chapter on finding a spouse. The book establishes its core concepts early on and continues to build throughout the book. Later chapters pertain to specific scenarios (marriage, missions, tithing, etc..) and are exercises applying earlier concepts.
Overall, I recommend “Decision Making and the Will of God” and especially the last two chapters for those in churches of Christ, Christian Churches or ICOC congregations. It is a great counseling help when advising people on various decisions they are making and helps them to own their own decisions. There is also a study guide in the back which may make a good small group series.
