Page 2 of 2 The name Yahweh also implies an unchanging character. “I am who I am” or “I will be who I will be” tells us God does not waver in his convictions, focus or goals. What he believed yesterday, he will believe tomorrow. How reassuring to have a Father who is not capricious or caviler with His creation.
Hebrews 6:17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.
1 Samuel 15:29 He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind."
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
Malachi 3:6 "I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.
Do we see God as steadfast and faithful? Do we think he abandons us? Do we see hardship as discipline or rejection from God? How we answer these questions reveals our theology and what God we worship. Is he the Lord Almighty from the bible or some other fabrication from our mind? Do we submit to being created in His image or do we create God in our image? It is important for us to be able to recognize our Lord by his character and not be confused by false theologies which present one God of the Old Testament and a “kinder, gentler” God of the New Testament. A bifurcated Lord is inconsistent with what the bible teaches.
God is unique and unchanging. Part of worshiping Him is recognizing who He is. False gods, theologies and philosophies can worm there way into our lives if we do not have an accurate picture of the Lord from the bible. He is incomparable and fixed in our character; a source of comfort, calm and challenge for those who would follow Yahweh.

The God Who Is Written by Alan on 2007-01-27 07:05:49 Great topic. I think of it this way: God was saying "I am the God that really exists." That sets God apart from all the gods that people create in their imaginations. God is reality. There is no way to escape from that reality. Every knee will bow. |
