ImageThe North Texas Praise and Unity Worship event provided an atmosphere where people were, "neither white, black nor brown...neither progressive nor conservative...[but] were simply brothers and sisters in Christ." The Christian Chronicle reports approximately 5000 people joined in worship. The Saturn Road church in Garland organized this event. The article is here.

The time of singing and worship allowed those from different races to come together in unity. Segregated congregations have long been a norm in the churches of Christ and it is a taboo subject.
  • Can the church of Christ overcome a century and a half racial divide in the church?
  • How will the church handle an influx of Spanish speakers, separate congregations or integration into existing ones?
  • Will new congregations be based ethnicity or open the doors to anyone in a geographic area?
  • How can the church best handle and promote multi-racial, integrated church plantings?
  • Can the churches of Christ learn something from the Independent Christian Churches or from the ICOC about integrated churches?
  • What do think the future is?

Thanks for pointing out this event. It's great that steps are being taken in the area of unity between races.

I suspect there will be a mixture of "separate but equal" and blended congregations, at least for a generation. My guess is that some in the older generation are not ready for a dramatic change of culture, music, and language. As much trouble as they have accepting the musical tastes of their own children, they won't find it easier to accommodate the cultures of other races and nations
