The Christian Standard has published, “An Unfinished Restoration
Acknowledged”. The author, Gary Weedman, presents three people and one
group which are, in one or several ways, restoring the ancient order.
One of restorationists, Dr. Robert Webber, challenges NACC (North
American Christian Convention) attendees not to abandon or stray from
the pursuit of returning to the ancient church.
Why are these individuals seeking to return to the ancient paths? Discontent with the current state of “church” and religion. They have not seen a distinction between “Christians” and the world and have concluded, something is missing or amiss.
Kings 19:18 But I will leave 7,000 in Israel —every knee that has not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him."
1 Kings 19:10 10 He replied, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God of Hosts, but the Israelites have abandoned Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are looking for me to take my life." (Also 1 Kings 19:14)
Beyond traditional Restoration Movement borders there is a stirring. Those who who want God to fill them. They are discovering the bible and its power, baptism and its saving waters, repentance and its refreshing revival. These seekers are abandoning a half theology and discovering a relational God with expectations. They hear the bible speaking doctrinal truths and see lives transformed.
Let us in the Restoration Movement be careful not to make Elijah's error and assume we are alone. God may have others and we would do well to keep an eye out for them.

Amen! Written by Alan on 2007-06-08 07:12:20 Great point. We have a tremendous amount in common with many seekers outside the RM camp. |
