News - Book Review

ImageDid you ever need a jump start for your admiration of God? Perhaps your morning study has become a bit dry or stale. Richard Rodriguez’ new book, “Re-Introducing God from Genesis” is a great antidote to spiritual blahs.

Richard walks his readers through the book of Genesis. Each chapter is a devotional and can be used for individuals or group study. Pertinent and provoking questions follow each section. Chapters parallel the chapters in the book of Genesis with tangents to relevant scriptures and accounts elsewhere in the bible.

As you read Re-Introducing God, Richard keeps God’s character and sovereignty in front of you at all times. Through each account in Genesis, God’s involvement and loving hand is highlighted by the book. Even in the less than great moments of God’s people, Richard manages to bring out the Lord’s goodness and His greater plan.

Re-Introducing God is written in an easy to read, familiar conversational style. Do not let Richard’s casual colloquialisms fool you; there is also depth. Sometimes the book reads more as commentary and other times as a series of quiet times, as it always speaks from the author’s heart. Many times you will feel as if brother Rodriguez is speaking to you directly.

As an Anglo reader, I was impressed by the African American perspective of the book. Richard speaks of his own experiences and gives an African American angle to the history of Israel and Genesis. Certainly this unique take is thought provoking.

I would recommend this book on a couple levels. First, it is a wonderful morning devotional and study book which can revitalize a flat pattern of quiet times. Re-Introducing God can be catalyst for deepening personal bible study. Secondly, I believe Richard’s book is an excellent series of group studies. The questions at the end of each chapter are sure to encourage deep dialogue. If your bible readings need a little “oomph” and you’re not quite sure where to turn, Re-Introducing God may be the ticket.

Re-Introducing God, by Richard Rodriguez is available at AuthorHouse, Amazon.com and other online retailers.
