John A. Meisenbach tells the story of two congregations merging in Tampa. Although these two churches are from the same stream of the Restoration Movement, the Independent Christian Churches, some common characteristics and results continue to surface. “With humility and vision, they are leading our attempt to become a church that can minister more effectively in south Tampa.” (My emphasis.) Every instance of congregational cooperation has humility as the main ingredient and greater outreach potential as the outcome. Thanks to the Christian Standard for publishing this encouraging article.

Church Merger Written by kingmasada on 2007-08-01 08:38:06 This is an encouraging story and is amazing to see that God can work in this way. One thing i noticed that was key for this merger was that both congregations were willing to work with each other, not be taken over by the other. Leadership from both churches are still working in some capacity in the new church, so nobody feels "reconstructed". I will continue to pray for this church. | Thanks Written by Alan on 2007-08-03 18:10:14 Phil, I appreciate the attention you pay to unity news from the independent Christian churches as well as churches of Christ. It's always encouraging to hear these stories. |
