Jesus is the light. Descending from
Heaven to enter His creation, Jesus condescends to meet the need of
humanity. Why only “need” and not needs? I have one need which is
salvation. I need the light, the light does not need me. I need the
Christ and His Word which provides the way of salvation. There is one
need.
Why the Christ in the flesh? Why bring
divinity down in order to lift man up? Was it because His creation
adored Him? No, “He came to His own and His own people and His own
people did not receive Him.” I must be reminded that I did not love
Jesus first, but He loved me first (1 John 4:19). He came despite me
and calls me to believe so I can be a child of God (v12).
Thank God for the Messiah. Through Him
is grace after grace (v16). Not only grace but truth comes through
Jesus (v17). What a relief to the one under the law; the long wait is
over. The mystery of what is to come is being revealed and it is
good. Imagine the moment when it dawns on the average Jew that the
Messiah has brought grace and truth to fulfill (not replace, Mt 5:17)
the law. What excitement and liberation. Am I as a Christian to be
any less excited? As a believer, I have, through Jesus, moved from
darkness into light, separation into family and wrath into peace.
What relief should I feel? What gratitude should I express? Prayer: Thank you God for Jesus. For
Him bringing grace and truth so I can be a child of God. Thank you
for His divinity and light.
