 One of the greatest errors I have found in myself and others in our relationship with God is not understanding or acknowledging all His characteristics and attributes. Job 42:8 reads, "My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and
not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken of me
what is right, as my servant Job has." Misrepresenting God and focusing on certain attributes while ignoring others is dangerous.
In the same vain, many today focus on God's grace at the expense of
remembering He is a God of wrath and justice. Others dwell exclusively
on the Lord's attention to detail and forget His merciful nature. Both
extremes are perilous. Exodus 34:6-7 expresses Yahweh''s balanced view
of Himself. "Yahweh—Yahweh is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to
anger and rich in faithful love and truth, 7 maintaining
faithful love to a thousand [generations], forgiving wrongdoing,
rebellion, and sin But He will not leave [the guilty]
unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers' wrongdoing on the
children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation." (Holman)
Let us be wise and not leave out parts of God's character to satisfy our desire to create Him in our image.
