The Stone-Campbell Movement or “Restoration Movement" began in earnest in the early 1800’s. Thomas and Alexander Campbell (father and son, respectively) and Barton W. Stone, independent of each other, came to some distinctive convictions about the Bible, theology, church polity and conversion.

Churches which sprang from the Restoration Movement include the churches of Christ, Independent Christian Churches / churches of Christ and the Disciples of Christ. The Disciples of Christ is the most liberal of the three and has the least visible Stone-Campbell heritage.
