God also allows his spirit to dwell in us. Acts
2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. I Corinthians 6:9 Do you
not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? What deeper level of intimacy is
there than sharing the same Spirit? The marriage relationship is an
analogy for our relationship with God (Ephesians 5:22ff). In a marriage
there are several levels of connection; emotional, intellectual,
spiritual and physical. Certainly God will not have us be more attached
to our spouse than him. God lives in us and provides day to day unity
from His Spirit.
If we desire unity
within our brotherhood it must start with our oneness with our Father.
The cross breaks our cold shell, God’s love seeps in and we warm to his
embrace. Without a connection to the creator, our hearts will dwell on
issues, opinions and faults. With a connection to our Lord our hearts
and minds are aligned with His and not fearful of change or tradition.
As we strive to forge unity, let us begin by holding tightly to the
intimacy God has already provided.
