Beauty of baptism One of the distinctive marks of the Restoration Movement is baptism. It
is the point in time when we share in the death and resurrection of
Jesus (Romans 6:3-4, Colossians 2:11-13). Our sins are washed away and
we receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). We emerge a new creation
clothed in Christ (Galatians 3:26-28). This is the beauty of baptism.
Baptism is an intimate interaction with Jesus. He calls us to participate
in Calvary with our own crucifixion. We are lowered into the grave with
him. All of our fear, selfishness, and sin are washed away with the
blood of Jesus. We lay in the tomb with him and can feel our self pour
out as we take on His identity and Spirit.
Out of the tomb we arise, a new creation. When God looks at us he sees
His Son (Galatians 3:26-28). How exhilarating and amazing! God sees me
as Jesus. Is it me that has caused this transformation? No. God
provided grace and allowed me faith. Baptism was the connection of
those elements where I could be saved (1 Peter 3:19-22). I am a new
creation because of God’s power.
Baptism is the point in time where we are saved and live a new life for
Christ. If our baptism has the power the Bible claims, then our changes
will be evident to all. Let us live as Jesus. We have forgiveness and
the Holy Spirit. God see us as His Son. This is the beauty of baptism.
