The ministry of Jesus is also peppered with outreach to those who were
traditionally outside Jewish culture. John 1:1-42 and Matthew 8:5-13
tell of our Lord reaching out to gentiles. His example would lay the
groundwork for the church and its cultural mix.
What keeps us from a heterogeneous church? Fear, misunderstanding,
laziness and / or pride. Is the leadership in your church mixed
ideologically? What about culturally? Is their a Restoration church
close by with almost the same ideology, but differing on some minor
point? Is their a white congregation and black (Spanish, Korean, etc…)
congregation within miles of each other? Why tolerate such
divisiveness? If separation, rather than unity, is the norm; pray to be
freed from fear. Do not let the past dictate the future. Prepare to
work hard at a diverse congregation. Let us embrace, not fight, the
ideological and culture mix God has provided us.
