Devoted to One Another
Acts 2:42-47 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Primitive church unity was simple. The engaged in Bible study (apostles’ teaching) fellowship, eating together and prayer. They gave to one another. Needs were met. Their joy drew outsiders in. Can we have the same experience as the early church?

The Restoration Movement has a history of deep Bible study and prayer. We have a tendency to go to the Word of God and on our knees when there is a question. Although their have been (and are) debates about many issues, scripture is the starting point. If scripture seems ambiguous, we move on to asking God for wisdom. Sometimes after much study and talking with the Lord we move to expediency and inference, but the beginning of our argument is rooted in the Bible and prayer. We love and respect the apostles’ teaching and prayer. In these elements we are very much like the early church.
