Part 3 of this tome deals with various fellowship issues and makes a clear path for God to do what God will do. Smith argues that God is not bound by His revealed will and can save those whom He chooses. LaGard is not suggesting that we should in any way back down from baptism or go against the what the Bible teaches, only that God has the prerogative to do as he wants.
The epilogue is a touching and challenging letter to Max Lucado concerning his ambiguous stand on baptism and its destructive effects on our fellowship. We could all learn a great deal about challenging someone with respect, honor, grace and humility. Smith captures all of these qualities while remaining stern, serious and biblically anchored in his correction of Lucado’s errors.
I highly recommend this book. To those who are unsure of the significance of baptism, read it. For those who are uncomfortable admitting others outside the Restoration Movement may have faith, read it. Those who would compromise anything for the sake of “unity” read it. Where ever you are in your convictions, read it.
